Dear Carlson Families,
This is certainly one of those times along life's journey that can test our spirit deeply. Nevertheless may we never stop believing that our faith, inner strength and the power of God's love will carry us through.
I have many good memories of my uncle Dale and though he was my uncle and the last born to his parents, we were only separated by four years.
When I was a youngster in Herington in the 1940's I recall the many good times my parents (Walt and Mae Carlson) and I had when visiting Fred, Tillie and Dale in Lost Springs. I liked playing monopoly with Dale and the families on those trips--and just visiting with them on their screened in back porch.
I got to watch uncle Dale play basketball for Lost Springs High School. He was a good player and I really liked his school's black uniforms.
After my parents and I moved to Wichita in the early 1940's, I remember Dale's visit with us when he was on leave with the US Navy. He was a good looking sailor and I was proud to introduce him to our neighbors and friends. He and I would spend some time at the corner drug store where Dale liked to play the pin ball machine. We were a lot alike in our passion for playing PB machines. When my mom and dad ran the restaurant in Lost Springs in the 1930's, my aunt Alene on my mothers side, would let me play the machine in the restaurant while mom and dad cooked meals.
I kind of lost track of Dale after my Navy days ended in 1955 and later work assignments with Sears Roebuck in various other cities. However, whenever I happened to be back in Kansas for visiting family or high school reunions, I would try to see Dale and catch up on his "goings on".
I am distressed upon losing my last remaining Uncle, but I rejoice in the peace he now has in living with his Lord.
Blessings to all the family and friends who knew Dale.
