Samuel L. Gonzolas, 58, of Herington, died Saturday, January 17th, 2015, at Via Christi, St. Francis Campus, Wichita. He was born on September 29th, 1956, at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, the son of Nicolaz “Nick” and Amelia Marie “Molly” (Mascareno) Gonzolas.
Christian Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30AM, Friday, January 23rd, 2015, at the St. John’s Catholic Church, Herington, with Rev. Mark Wesely; burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington. A Rosary will be held at 6pm Thursday, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel.
Mr. Gonzolas was an Engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. He went to Herington High School with the class of 1974.
He married Cecelia L. Anguiano on December 16, 2011, in Abilene; she survives of the home. Survived by a daughter Rachael Sinkes (husband-Dustin of Vass, NC; two (2) sons: Jeremey Gonzolas (wife-Kristy) of Lakewood, CO, and Trent Gonzolas of Council Grove; a step-son Mario Corona of Tioga, ND; two (2) step-daughters: Darcy Davis (husband-Jim) of Herington, and Erin Beisel of Manhattan; eight (8) grandchildren; and a great-grandson (Maddox). He is also survived by his father Nick Gonzolas of Herington; three (3) brothers: Ed Gonzoles of Overland Park, Phillip Gonzolas (wife-Janet) of Herington, Michael Gonzolas (wife-Trisa) of Bakersfield, CA; and two (2) sisters: Theresa Langhofer (husband-Gavin) of Herington, and Lisa Stroda (husband-Kenny) of Hope.
He is preceded in death by his mother “Molly” on July 19, 2000.
