Obituary, Warren Gene DIX, 90
Warren Gene Dix was born to Phil and Nina Dix on March 23, 1924, at Marion, Kansas. He lived on the family farm north of Burdick for all his childhood.
He attended Township elementary school and graduated from Delavan High School in 1943.
Warren served in the U.S. Army achieving the rank of First Lieutenant. He married Lorraine (Dodie) Wiggans in November of 1945. They settled on their homestead northeast of Delavan and lived there until 2008.
Warren farmed, operated heavy equipment, and ran a dairy in the early years. He then learned the trade of building houses and continued as a self-employed contractor for many years, building people's dream homes all over the surrounding communities. He also enjoyed coyote hunting and attending moto-cross races with his son.
When he retired, he enjoyed running Windy Hill Woodcrafts with his wife
Dodie, fishing, and attending local sporting events. He also worked part-time as a caretaker at the Herington Air Base. Warren was involved in community projects in Delavan, improving the Fire Department and Community building. Warren loved writing articles of his remembrances of the good old days.
Warren is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dodie, a son Steve and his wife
Megan, daughter Marsha Hensley, grandchildren Christy and Steve Buchman, Matt and Nichole Hensley, and Sarah and Sean DeMars. He is also survived by great grandchildren Cale and Blake Buchman, Tanner and Riley Shade, Macey Hensley, and Cooper and Graham DeMars; two brothers Don and wife Linda, Jim and wife Lynda, and one sister Phyllis Cirjak. Warren was preceded in death by his parents, two infant siblings, brothers Richard and Max, sister Dorothy Hagnauer, and son-in-law Bob Hensley.
Per his request, Warren's body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center for medical research. Private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or memorial contributions, messages of condolence can be sent to Dodie Dix in care of Marsha Hensley at 224 N. Mission Street, Council Grove, Kansas.
