Inez (Hernandez) Mascareno, 91, of Herington, died Saturday, December 27th, 2014, at Abilene. She was born on January 7, 1923, at Abilene, the daughter of Quirino and Maria (Anguiano) Hernandez.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, December 31st, 2014, at the St. John’s Catholic Church, Herington; burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery. A Rosary will be held at the church Wednesday at 10:30am. She will lie in state Tuesday from 2pm until 6pm at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel.
Mrs. Mascareno retired from the Lutheran Home in 2001. She began working for Ed McGown’s Poultry, and later worked as a seamstress at Paragon’s Children Clothing. She was a faithful member of the St. John’s Catholic Church.
She married Pedro Mascareno on July 26, 1944, in Herington; he preceded in death on April 29, 1991. She is also preceded in death by three (3) sons: Manuel (10/09/2008), Daniel “Nick” (09/01/2012), and Stephen (06/11/1972); six (6) brothers (Felix, Manuel, Tomas, Jose, Isedro, Ramon); four (4) sisters (San Juana Garcia, Guadalupe Sanchez, Andrea Hernandez, Antonia Barajas); and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter Linda Anderson (husband-James) of Lawrence; daughter-in-law Norma Mascareno of Abilene; brother Carman Hernandez of Pomona, CA; four (4) sisters: Louise Hernandez, Mary Louisa Gonzalez, Angela Gonzalez, and Nancy Hernandez all of Salina; five (5) grandchildren (Steven A., Matthew H., Brandon M. Amber Dawn, & Manuel Nicholas); and eight (8) great grandchildren.
