Verlon W. Mueller, 90, of Herington, died Wednesday, June 11th, 2014, at his home. He was born at St. Francis, KS, Friday, May 30th, 1924, the son of Rev. Otto H. and Marie E. (Roepe) Mueller.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 pm Monday, June 16th, 2014, at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Herington, with Rev. Alan Stahlecker and Rev. K.C. Dehning officiating; burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery with military honors. A prayer service will be held at 7:00pm Sunday, June 15th, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel.
Mr. Mueller was president and former manager of Clark Lumber Company, Herington. He was an active member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, serving on many of the church boards. He was active in the community, serving as officer of the V.F.W., and the American Legion; past president of the Herington Lion’s Club; a board member of the Herington Country Club; and the Herington Hospital Board.
He graduated from Herington High School with the class of 1942. After high school he went into the U.S. Army Infantry and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Action during WWII as a Staff Sergeant; then served in the Army Reserves where he became a Chief Warrant Officer.
Married Ruby L. Koegeboehn, on October 12, 1947, in Herington, by his father; she preceded in death on July 23, 1995. Also preceded in death by his daughter Janice Pankratz, and his parents.
Survived by his son Ray Mueller (wife-Susan) of Herington, sister Helen Mitchell of Herington, son-in-law Larry Pankratz of Salina, four (4) grandchildren (Kristopher & Jacob Mueller, Bethany Shelly, Natalie Brooks), five (5) great grandchildren (Maxwell, Baron, and Winston Shelly, Burton & Ailey Brooks), and his special friend Ruth Smith of Herington.
