OBITUARY for – Jeanette W. Sims, 97
Jeanette W. Sims, 97, of Herington, died Thursday, December 20th, 2012, at the Medicalodges of Herington. She was born November 14th, 1915, at Ashley, Illinois, the daughter of Ernst & Florence M. (Hyatt) Frese.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 29th, 2012, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington, with Pastor Bill Peterson officiating. Musicians will be Linda Carlson, Marlyn Diepenbrock, and Judy Peterson. Special music will be sung by Amanda Raddatz. Casketbearers will be Gary Sims, Eric Kelts, Ryan Foster, Joseph Gordon, Andrew Kelts, Sims Foster, Steve Gordon, and Gregory Kelts. Burial will follow with military honors at the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30pm until 8:00pm Friday, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel.
Mrs. Sims was employed as a registered nurse at the Herington Municipal Hospital until the mid 1980’s. She served in the U.S. Army Nurses Corps during WWII as a First Lieutenant. She graduated from Ashley High School with the class of 1934, and then went to St. Luke Hospital School of Nursing to receive her Nursing degree in 1939. She was an active member of the Herington Hospital Auxiliary; and held every office in the First Presbyterian Church, Herington, until it closed in 2007. She then became a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
She married LT George C Sims on November 12, 1943, in St. Louis, MO; he preceded in death on January 9, 1990. Also preceded in death by her daughter Barbara (Sims) Gordon on December 4, 2011; two (2) sisters (Alice Frese & Emily Mondoy); three (3) brothers (John Frese, Norman Frese, & Robert Frese); and her parents.
She is survived by her son Gary Sims of Herington; three (3) daughters: Diane Foster of Livingston Manor, NY, Susan Kelts of Rapid City, SD, and Sharon Sims of Indianapolis, IN; a sister Louise Hoffman of Livingston, NJ; eight (8) grandchildren; and seven (7) great grandchildren.
The family requests memorial, in lieu of flowers, to the Dickinson County Hospice; and they may be sent in care of the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS, 67449-3038.
