OBITUARY FOR – Dale L. “Swede” Carlson, 86
Dale L. “Swede” Carlson, 86, of Herington, died Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012, at McPherson. He was born on March 3rd, 1926, at Herington, the son of Fred A. and Jennie M. (Peterson) Carlson.
Funeral Service will be at 10:00AM Monday, October 8th, 2012, at the St. John Lutheran Church, Lincolnville, with Rev. Alan Stahlecker officiating. Musician for the service will be Marlyn Diepenbrock. Burial will follow at the Lost Springs Cemetery, with Military Honors. Friends may call from 2pm to 7pm, Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel; a Prayer Service will be held at 7pm Sunday, October 7th. Pallbearers will be his grandsons (Aaron Carlson, Christopher Carlson, Greg Carlson, Jeff Carlson, Jon Carlson, Nicholas Carlson, Andy Nading, & Brayden Schrag).
Mr. Carlson was a part owner and operator with Frank Jones’ Oil Company, stationed in McPherson for many years. He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lincolnville. He grew up in Lost Springs and graduated from Lost Springs High School with the class of 1944. After high school he went into the U.S. Navy, and served in the Pacific Theater of Action during World War II, as a Seaman First Class, serving on the USS O’Neill and the USS Rigel.
He married Delores E Miltz, on September 19, 1949, in Topeka; she is preceded in death on November 29, 1996. He is also preceded in death by an infant son Ronald Craig Carlson, a infant grandson Eric Bruce Carlson, and his two (2) brothers: Walt Carlson & Harold Carlson.
He is survived by his four (4) sons: Kenneth Carlson & Michael Carlson both of Hillsboro, and Robert “Bob” Carlson (wife-Brenda) & Kevin Carlson (wife-Roxanna “Rocky”) both of McPherson; 13 grandchildren (Jon Carlson, Greg Carlson, & Bobbie Jo Carlson; Jeff Carlson & Jenny Schrag; Andy Nading & Emma Lauer; Christopher Carlson, Lacey Martinez, Nicholas Carlson, Aaron Carlson & Rachel Carlson; and Dominic Carlson); and six (6) great-grandchildren (Amaya Carlson, Brittney Schrag, Baylee Schrag, Brayden Schrag, Jadon Carlson, & Shiloh Carlson).
