Paul H. Utech, 81, of Shawnee, died Thursday, August 27th, 2015, at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center. He was born on Friday, December 15, 1933, rural Herington, the son of Walter W. Sr. and Edna J. (Granzow) Utech.
Funeral Service will be 11:00AM, Tuesday, September 1st, 2015, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington, with Pastor Bill Peterson officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00pm until 8:00pm Monday evening, August 31st, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington.
Mr. Utech was owner/operator of Gasco Electric Fireplace & Patio in Kansas City for many years before he retired. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, after he graduated from Herington High School with the class of 1952. He attended Kansas State University after his military service, and then completed his Bachelor of Science Degree from Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia in Business and Accounting.
Married Judith M. Vossler on June 11, 1961, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington; she survives of Lenexa, KS. Also survived by a son Todd Utech (wife-Kathy) of Wichita; two (2) daughters: Durise Utech of Olathe, and Roxanne Thulin (husband-Ted) of Wichita; two (2) brothers: Robert “Buck” Utech of Herington, and James Utech (wife-Cheryl) of Junction City; a sister Teresa Staatz (husband-Raymond) of Pipestone, Minn.; and two (2) sisters-in-law: Helen Utech, and Liz Utech both of Herington. Seven (7) grandchildren: grandson Devin Thulin; and six (6) granddaughters Amanda, Madison, Averill Thulin; and Kailey, Kate, & Kennadee Utech.
He was preceded in death by two (2) brothers: W.W. “Bill” Utech, Jr., and Ernest Utech; a sister-in-law Dixie Utech; and his parents.
