Henry C. Shinn, 91, a former Herington resident, died Monday, August 25th, 2014, at the Diversicare Nursing Home in Council Grove. He was born June 17th, 1923, in Lebo, Kansas, the son of John Henry and Oma Revina (Attebury) Shinn.
Funeral Services will be Friday morning, August 29th, 2014, at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Darrell Geist, officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Casketbearers for the service will be Harold Shinn,
Jared Shinn, Steve Shinn, Eric Schultz, Jim Schultz, and Sam Wamser.
Mr. Shinn was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps form July 2, 1940, to June 25, 1941. He then worked as a railroad clerk for the Rock Island Railroad and Cotton Belt Railroad for over 40 years prior to retiring on June 15, 1983. For nearly five years he was a driver for Herington’s Senior Center Citizen mini-bus. He received the 1990 Senior Citizen of the Year Award for his involvement as a driver and the special assistance he provided to passengers.
He married Henrietta June Bliss on March 20, 1946, in Council Grove. Henrietta died on March 25, 1962. He later married Jane Schultz on September 12, 1969, and she preceded him death on February 1, 2014. He is also preceded in death by his three brothers; Lawrence, Harold, and Donald Shinn, a sister Mamie Chronister, and his parents.
He is survived by three daughters; Linda Edwards (husband-Steve) of Emporia, Sandra Little (companion-Gregg Glasier) of Madison, WI, Joyce Greenhalgh (husband-Dave) of Azle, TX,a son Steven Shinn (wife-Renee) of Salina, 4 step-sons; Gordon Schultz (wife-Alice) & Eric Schultz (wife-Patty) of Wichita, James Schultz (wife-Charlotte) of Hope, Brian Schultz (wife-Gloria) of Herington, 2 step-daughters; Marie “Sue” Biehler (husband-Larry) of Herington, Beryl
Wendt (husband-Glenn) of Salina, a brother Robert Shinn (wife-Fran) of Mt. Pleasant, TX,a sister Betty Jo Plank (husband- Gene) of Emporia, 8 Grandchildren, 20 Step-Grandchildren,13 Great Grandchildren and 32 Step Great Grandchildren.
