OBITUARY FOR – Betty R. Haas, 92
Betty R. Haas, 92, longtime resident of Herington, died Wednesday, July 23rd, 2014, at the Salina Regional Hospital. She was born on Tuesday, May 16, 1922, in Clay Center, the daughter of George Wm. Sr. and Alice (Roth) Holmes.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:30pm, Monday, July 28th, 2014, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, with Pastor Bill Peterson officiating; burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Monday, July 28th from 10am until time of service at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel.
Mrs. Haas was a homemaker. She also was a receptionist for the Donahue Funeral Home, Herington. She was cashier for the Dreamland Theater & Rocket Drive-Inn, in the 1950’s. She was a cook at the Herington Hospital for 6 years, a PTA Home Room Mother, and a member of the Switchman’s Auxiliary. She graduated from Herington High School with the class of 1940.
She played piano for the primary and junior Sunday School Departments at the Christian Church for over 20 years. She was an avid reader at the Herington Library, she said she had read every book in the library at least once.
She married Harvey Haas, Sr. on July 14, 1940, in Newton; and he preceded her in death on November 8, 1982. She is also preceded in death by two (2) sons: Harvey Haas, Jr. (07/19/1993), and Benjamin “Ben” Haas (12/28/2002); her brother George Holmes, Jr.; and her parents.
Survived by her son Nick Haas of Broken Arrow, OK, her daughter Diana Fisher of Wichita, five (5) grandchildren, and ten (10) great grandchildren.
