Esther V. Kleinschmidt, 93, a lifelong resident of rural Herington, died Wednesday, March 5th, 2014, at the Medicalodges of Herington. She was born Friday, June 25, 1920, on a farm near Hope the daughter of Otto and Laurena (Herpich) Schlesener. Her father Otto died when Esther was a small infant, then raised by her step-father Walter and mother Laurena Schlesener.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, March 10th, 2014, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church (Lyons Creek), Herington, with Rev. Justin Panzer officiating. Musician for the service will be Marlyn Diepenbrock. Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Brussow, J. C. Jones, Cody Kleinschmidt, Scott Kleinschmidt, Shane Kleinschmidt, and Brad Palmateer. Burial will follow at the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 7:00pm Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel.
Mrs. Kleinschmidt was a farm wife. She was a lifetime member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church (Lyons Creek); and a faithful member of the church. She enjoyed embroidery and making quilts.
Married Clemens Kleinschmidt at Wichita, September 14, 1942; and he preceded in death on August 29, 1982. She is also preceded in death by her half-brother Orville Schlesener, on November 23, 1998; and her parents.
Survived by two (2) daughters: Rosa Jones (husband-John) of Manhattan, and Marjorie Thacker (husband-Barry) of Herington; two (2) sons: Jerry Kleinschmidt, and Dale Kleinschmidt both of Herington; eight (8) grandchildren; and eight (8) great-grandchildren.
